This blog is based on the Highlights of Youth Festival 2024 organised by Maharaja Krishnakumarsinhji Bhavnagar University on 17/18/19 October 2024. In this blog I am going to share my experience of the Youth Festival and also going to give an outline of various events.
Maharaja Krishnakumarsinhji Bhavnagar University organized its 32st Youth Festival, named "Bhavspandan Yuvak Mahotsav," from November 17th to 19th, 2024, and this time, it was hosted by the #Physical_Education_Department of the university.
Inaugration Ceremony :
Additionally, a Stuti performance was delivered by the Kalapath Group with the central theme of Narivandana, featuring songs like, "Rangreza".
Mimicry :
Mimicry, a complex skill, requires participants to use their voices to emulate various sounds, such as those of trains, bullets, helicopters, conch shells, animals, doors, birds, actors, soda bottles, Daklas, bombs, heartbeats, Farahn Khan, Kangana Ranaut, Oggy, and Doraemon. Some participants enhanced their performances by incorporating rhyming elements.
Skit :
The skit encompassed a broad spectrum of pivotal topics, commencing with grave issues such as unemployment, deficiencies in our educational system, and contentious debates surrounding rape cases. Moreover, the performance delved into challenges faced by women in Stree 3, the imperative of women's empowerment, the controversial topic of Gandhi Marte Kyun Nahi Hai, the unifying message of "Hum Sab 1 hai" (We Are All One), the pervasive issue of corruption in employment, the concept of paperless transactions, the aspiration of "Hu sapana thoda vechu chu" (I Want to Sell My Dreams), and the lamentable state of roads in Bhavnagar.
The skit showed people's struggles with no jobs and money problems. The characters showed how these problems can make people feel bad. It also talked about rape cases and how the law, people's feelings, and rules can make it hard for victims to get justice. The skit talked about the problems faced by people who are not male or female, like being treated badly and having fewer chances. It showed how bad things like bribes, unfairness, and favoritism can happen in jobs. The skit was funny and used humor to talk about serious things. It used music, different voices, and speaking speeds to make it interesting and memorable just like Horatian satire of Neo-classical age.
Bhajan :
When comparing Bhajans to English literature, we can examine their themes, style, and unique cultural elements. Bhajans often delve into themes of solitude, spiritual seeking, love, and self-discovery. While English literature may explore similar themes, the emphasis on these particular aspects in Bhajans is distinctive and rooted in Gujarati culture.
The incorporation of Gujarati words and phrases, such as "મોતીડા પરોવો પાનબાઈ," adds a layer of cultural specificity to Bhajans. Similarly, English literature often references cultural elements that vary depending on the author and the story.
In terms of narrative structure, Bhajans can be likened to stories that explore personal journeys, resembling novels or essays. The numerous Bhajans performed demonstrate the diversity of themes and experiences within this literary form.
One of the defining characteristics of Bhajans is their philosophical undertone, often reflecting the concept of "Vairagya" or detachment. Phrases like "Ghadvaiya mare Thakorji nathi thavu" (Even if the world crumbles, I won't leave my Lord), "Mane jya game che tya Haru chu faru chu" (I wander aimlessly in search of my Lord), "AMbani Dale Koyal ji re" (Oh Koyal, sing in the Ambe grove), "Zer to pidha jani jani re" (Drinking poison knowingly), "Shilvant Sadhune" (Oh wise sage), "Odhaji" (Oh Odhaji), and "Dhuni re Dhakhavi re beli" (Oh bonfire, burn brightly) exemplify this philosophical depth.

Elocution :
Unfortunately, this time we were not able to secure any position in the Youth Festival. However, I witnessed firsthand the hard work and dedication of every participant from our department.
Despite the outcome, we learned valuable lessons about unity, encouragement, and teamwork. We took charge of our own preparations, from managing the Kalyatra to handling backstage duties. The support and encouragement from the entire team were truly inspiring.
We also enjoyed the three days of the festival, especially since our department hosted the literature events. The university provided excellent support with food, transportation, and accommodation. The volunteer team worked tirelessly, demonstrating the spirit of selfless service.
As Hemingway said, "A man can be destroyed but not defeated." This Youth Festival was a memorable experience, and we will carry the lessons learned forward.
