Poe's Spooky Stories: A Scary Good Time

Poe's Spooky Stories: A Scary Good Time

Hey Bibliophile there,

I have recently been reading the Edgar Allan Poe as the part of Monthly Book Shelf culb run by the department of English, MKBU. This month is known as Poe’s September Shadow. So without much ado let's dive into the sea of horror by Poe.

Edgar Allan Poe, the king of creepy tales, writes stories that will give you nightmares. His stories are like a haunted house, full of twists and turns that will make your heart race. I personally thought that he has mastery over themes of horror ans that is giving me constant sense of terror no matter you are alone reading or amidst the crowd.

The Fall of the House of Usher

So, there's this guy named Roderick Usher who lives in a super creepy, old house. It's like something out of a horror movie. His sister, Madeline, gets really sick and dies. But here's the weird part: Roderick thinks she's not really dead.

He buries her in a vault under the house, but then she comes back as a ghost! Like, a real, scary ghost. Roderick and Madeline end up dying together, and the house falls apart. It's a spooky story about fear, sadness, and the power of the mind.As Poe writes,

"I endeavored to compose myself, and to give courage to my companion; but it was not easy."

The Tell-Tale Heart: A Crazy Story

Edgar Allan Poe's "The Tell-Tale Heart" is a scary story about a guy who goes crazy. He hates an old man's eye and wants to kill him. One night, he sneaks into the old man's room and tries to kill him. But the old man's heart starts beating really loud, and the guy gets scared. He thinks the old man can hear his heart beating, too.

"I could hear it beating louder and louder, until I thought my heart would burst."

So, the guy kills the old man and hides his body. But he can't stop thinking about the old man's heart. He thinks he hears it beating under the floorboards. He gets so scared that he tells the police what he did.

The story shows how dangerous obsession can be. I was reading this story at that time the echo of the narrator's statement "I AM NOT MAD." constantly hitting me why he was repeting the same thing to prove himslef not guilty.

The Masque of the Red Death: A Scary Story

Edgar Allan Poe's "The Masque of the Red Death" is a scary story about a rich man named Prince Prospero. There is a deadly disease called the Red Death going around, so Prospero hides away in his big house. For this six rooms with the dscription creates imagination in the mind. I remembered the horror movies seen where spectator are thrown into the setting, similarly this setting was. Another thing at wide pace it was the story of the plague period and how horrifically it eaten away the population.

Now this fact I was not able to get but when I read the summary after reading at that time I get the idea. Prospero has a party in his house. He thinks he is safe from the Red Death, but he is wrong. A mysterious figure called the Red Death shows up at the party. The Red Death is scary and deadly. It kills everyone at the party, including Prospero. The story is a warning about death and how no one can escape it.

Poe's stories are scary, but they're also really well-written. He's a master of suspense and atmosphere. If you like spooky stories, you'll love Poe.

Thank You. We will meet in next review, till then have a good time.
